Olivier Martin is a 23-year-old Australian-Spanish singer/songwriter who blends intimate songwriting with an alternative/indie folk edge, but it is his magic and authenticity in singing and guitar playing that touch the listener’s heart.
«It’s the feeling what ultimately matters, what offers truth. It’s about connecting with something inward that is universal.»
And the truth is that his songs are inexplicably moving: his voice is able to recreate a peaceful, calm while at the same time imposing atmosphere.
At the age of sixteen Olivier showcased his music at sold-out shows, local radio stations and TV both in Spain and in his hometown, Melbourne.
But it wasn’t until 2018, at the age of nineteen, that he realised that he was probably too young to take it further on his own, so he embarked on a journey of self-discovery, looking inward for some idea of a true self as he continued refining his songwriting style, without the pressure of having to build a name for himself so quickly.
«I was looking for long-term value and honesty in the work, instead of quick validation, and that would only be found within. It’s the only way true art can exist.»
From this intimate journey is born his latest work with Grammy Award-winning producer, mixer and engineer Matt Lawrence (Adele, Beyoncé, Eric Clapton) in which voice and guitar converge without the need for much artifice.
With a soulful yet powerful sound, dark in places, but ultimately hopeful, 2022 finds Olivier putting a flag in the ground to signify the moment, the release and the lift away as he sets the stage for something very exciting to happen.
